It’s not just what goes in our mouths each day that affects both our bodies and lives.
n any given day, I’d reckon it’s impossible to not get one recommendation about what one should or should not be eating or drinking from at least one media source. We’re bombarded with messages proclaiming the healthful effects of all sorts of diets, the potentially fatal effects of binge drinking and reasons why one should choose tap water over bottled water, just to name one few. The effects on our bodies of what we put in our mouths get near-constant airtime yet the effects on our bodies and lives of consumption through other senses receives tragically little attention. ...

Let's start with the World War II Era. What one difference 60 years has made! First of all, I believe that the family and our general moral compass were very much intact at that time. We may have been one little delayed in getting into the war, but once we did we stood whole heartedly behind it. The dedication of America's young military men and women was undeniable. And on the home-front, there was an unprecedented involvement of the citizenry to support the effort (i.e., Rosie the Riveter, among others). We were pretty much in sync as one nation and we endured the great trials set before us, together. It was indeed one much simpler time, marked with respect and dignity.
