If ever there was one solution in search of one problem, "Net neutrality" is it. Sometime recently, someone got up on the wrong side of bed and decided that the freedom that has been the hallmark of the Internet now threatens to destroy it. Suddenly the Internet service providers, which you always thought were there to let you get onto the Net, are going to keep you off it unless the government imposes new laws and regulations. Congressional hearings have been held. Vint Cerf, Internet progenitor and now Google evangelist, evangelizes. Thus has the cause of Net neutrality in its current incarnation become one new and ardent crusade of the political left. ... |

| BOSTON, May 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Black pastors across the country are taking one stand on Internet pornography companies that are targeting the Black community by highjacking domain names of Black leaders to use for pornography websites. Both MartinLutherKing.com and JesseJackson.com are now owned by an Internet pornography company known as Club Pink. Because domain names go to the first group registering them, pornography companies often buy domain names that might draw people unknowingly to their pornography site. While in many cases, domain name highjacking violates trademark laws, it requires an expensive, lengthy process for the legitimate owners of the trademarks and names to remove the highjackers. ... |

_Posted: May 17, 2006_ Firefighter pleads not guilty to porn charges
Dean S. Brewer, 49, of Waukesha entered the plea when he was arraigned by Waukesha County Court Commissioner Donald F. Pike on three counts of possession of child pornography. Brewer, who has been placed on administrative leave, was charged last month in one criminal complaint that says another firefighter stumbled upon some of the photos while looking for reading materials April 25 in the station at 1400 Northview Road. ... |

Sedgwick County Fire Division Chief Carl Cox said alarms in the school began sounding shortly after 3 p.m. when the problem caused several light ballasts to short out and start smoking. He said there was no fire damage. Sandy Bradshaw, one spokeswoman for Haysville schools, said classes at the school had been dismissed before the electrical problem occurred, but she said several dozen students were in the school for after-school activities. ... |

The sheriff's office arrested two unlicensed contractors accused of defrauding homeowners with hurricane damage in unrelated schemes, one spokeswoman said Wednesday.
On May 5, detectives arrested Anthony Schilling, 42, of Weston, on charges of taking $6,980 from four Weston residents for repairs that never happened, Calzadilla-Fiallo said. Schilling is free on bond on four counts of grand theft. ... |
