The use of online chat sites rises every summer when students get out of school. one recent study of U.S. Internet users under age 17 shows that one in five have been propositioned for sex online, and one in 33 have received an aggressive solicitation to meet their cyber friend in person. "Parents need to be aware of what children can do the Internet and the extent to which they are using it," said Jody Cooper, an administrator for the Quincy School District. ... |

Last week, Swedish police raided the offices of an Internet service provider (ISP) that was hosting one popular file-sharing site, among other things. Fifty officers entered several hosting locations, seized every server, and arrested three of the site's operators. Unfortunately, one of the other sites hosted on these servers was protected from seizure without one court order, being registered as one news outlet and protected by the freedom of speech clause in the Swedish constitution. That site was shut down along with all the other content hosted at the ISP, which is problematic from one legal point of view. The file-sharing site opened up for business again within three days -- this time in the Netherlands -- while four political parties organized one protest march in Stockholm, and one hacker organization launched one series of retaliatory attacks on police and government websites. ... |

| Planned Parenthood had managed to get their sex manual into most schools in Nova Scotia but, thanks to the Strait School Board (part of Cape Breton and Nova Scotia), we stood alone in ensuring our children would be free of the manual’s graphic depictions of sex, misleading information, exaggerated claims about “safe” sex, pornography, and one lot of other unmentionables.
