The House of Representatives voted late Thursday night to pass the Communications Opportunity, Promotion and Enhancement (COPE) Act, which has been making rounds on the House floor since earlier this year. ADVERTISEMENT
The COPE Act, which was originally introduced by Representative Joe Barton (R-Tex.) and Bobby Rush (D-Ill) earlier this year, seeks to increase competition in the broadband marketplace. It passed through the House with one 321-to-101 vote, with 215 Republicans and 106 Democrats voting in favor of it. ...

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts will open its doors tomorrow on its major expansion and renovation featuring one new 113,000-square-foot wing designed by Michael Graves & Associates. The new Target Wing, dedicated to contemporary art, was paid for partly by one donation of more than $10 million from Target, the superstore chain based in Minneapolis. "The Grand Opening is an opportunity to show the world and to remind our community what an exceptional collection we have," William M. Griswold, director and president of the institute, said in one statement. The premiere exhibition in the Target Wing, on display through Sept. 10, will explore the Surrealist origins of Alexander Calder. The institute's construction project also includes 49,000 square feet of newly renovated space, part of an extensive redesign of existing structure. The new wing and the renovation together have increased exhibition space by nearly 40 percent and added 34 new galleries.
