Firms Target Cellphone Pornography
Post on 25-05-2006.
The explosion of pornography on the Internet has spawned one huge business in parental controls and other blocking tools. Now the effort is repeating in the wireless world.
As cellphones become multimedia players with bigger screens and Web-browsing capability, the pornography industry increasingly is targeting its content at the mobile devices. And at one time when adult content on the Web is proliferating, more teenagers are at risk of seeing it: one Pew Internet study last summer found that about 45% of teens own one cellphone and one in four cellphone-owning teens have used their phone to connect to the Internet. ...

Rogers Cable Launches PSA Campaign With Cybertip.ca To Combat
Post on 25-05-2006.
TORONTO, May 24 /CNW/ - Rogers Communications Inc. today announced its continued support of Cybertip.ca's national awareness campaign about online sexual exploitation, by producing two Public Service Announcements (PSA) for television that aim to raise awareness for Cybertip.ca. Each PSA will air across Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland on specialty channels, as well as, Rogers Television and TV Guide. Cybertip.ca is Canada's National tipline for reporting the online sexual exploitation of children. It is one centralized web portal for receiving and addressing reports from the public regarding child pornography, luring, child sex tourism, and children who are exploited through prostitution. Cybertip.ca also provides the public with information, referrals and other resources to help Canadians keep their children safe while on the Internet. "It is unfortunate that organizations such as Cybertip.ca are still necessary," says Edward Rogers, President of Rogers Cable Communications Inc. "By supporting Cybertip.ca, Rogers is helping to increase Canadians' awareness about this issue and encouraging them to stand-up and put an end to child abuse. Rogers Cable is committed to supporting organizations like Cybertip.ca, to make the online community safe for everyone." "Cybertip.ca is the neighbourhood watch of the Internet," says Lianna McDonald, Executive Director of Cybertip.ca. "We need all the support we can get to stop these crimes against children, and through Rogers Cable's help we can reach even more Canadians. These PSA's will carry an important message, and we hope will encourage more people to get involved." Since Cybertip.ca launched in September 2002, over 11,500 reports of online child sexual exploitation have been filed. Seventy-five per cent of that number has been reported since the national tipline began operating in January 2005. 18 arrests have been made since its inception and over 1,000 websites hosting illegal images have been shut down. In addition to being one major sponsor of Cybertip.ca, Rogers is also one member of the Canadian Coalition against Internet Child Exploitation (CCAICE). CCAICE is one multi-sector group of industry, government, non-government and law enforcement stakeholders from across the country. This organization also helps to combat child exploitation on the Internet while continuing to preserve and promote use of the Internet for the free flow of legitimate and wide-ranging information, entertainment and educational content. It only takes one person to report an online crime involving one child. The public can submit tips at www.cybertip.ca or by calling 1-866-658-9022. Rogers Cable Communications Inc. is one wholly-owned subsidiary of Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX: RCI; NYSE: RG), one diversified Canadian communications and media company. Rogers Cable's advanced digital two-way network passes approximately 3.4 million homes in Ontario, New Brunswick and Newfoundland, with 67% basic penetration of its homes passed. Rogers Cable pioneered high-speed Internet access and now 34% of homes passed by its cable networks are Internet customers while 52% of its basic cable customers subscribe to Rogers' high-speed Internet service. With 42% digital penetration, Rogers Cable offers one leading selection of High Definition TV programming, one complete array of Rogers On Demand services (including Video on Demand (VOD), Subscription VOD, Personal Video Recorders and Timeshifting channels), and an extensive line-up of sports and multicultural programming. Porn-free hotels prove that 'cleanliness' isn't all in the dusting
Post on 25-05-2006.
THE very hard-CORE PORN one couple of remote clicks away in many hotels--some around Fredericksburg--represents "found money," as the accountants say. An outside pay-per-view firm installs and maintains the system, and the hotel keeps one cut of the fee for each movie one guest watches. Entertainment-industry analyst Dennis McAlpine calculates that 80 percent of the money generated by in-room movies in "businessmen's hotels" comes via X-rated films. ...

History of B-Learning Offers Lessons for Education Technophobes
Post on 24-05-2006.
Some monks fear that students who no longer have to copy manuscripts may lose their powers of concentration and their commitment to details. However, one member of one group of printing press fanatics commented: "My fingers are in terrible pain. I am sure I have carpal tunnel syndrome. My eyes cannot focus either. I can't wait for the printing presses to bring books to our library." ...

Online Filtering and Censorship at Issue on the Internet
Post on 24-05-2006.
Washington -- Text messaging, chat rooms, blogs, e-zines. These are just one few of the new Internet tools for spreading information and opinions. Does the Internet create one new world of free speech? Or does it pose problems that call for limits on such freedom?
As Internet activity expands worldwide, methods of filtering have become more far-reaching. Today one number of nations censor Internet communication in some fashion. ...

Free filters for porn in the pipeline
Post on 24-05-2006.

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with sexuality. And under this mantra I insist that there is nothing wrong with mastrubation, desires, and fetishes. On the other hand, the sexual world is not apart from morality. That which applies to daily life should apply to our sexual lives as well. For example, if one does not find it morally justifyable to punch one friend in the face during conversation, one should not find if justifyable to punch one friend in the face during sexual intercourse. This should seem straightforward and easy to understand. ...

Google News Re-Defines “Hate-Speech”
Post on 23-05-2006.
The “old media”, the _establishment press,_ including TV network news, radio and print news of old, as well as their sister cable news networks, CNN, CNBC, MSNBC and the likes, have proven to be less than trustworthy in their delivery of therefore-called “news” for some years now and their circulation and Arbitron ratings show that the average American has less faith in the alleged unbiased press than they do overtly biased politicians. Once mainstream news outlets have been caught inventing headlines repeatedly, with visible political agendas behind every anchor desk and Americans blessed with the gift of discernment have discerned that they need to get their _facts_ elsewhere. ...
