Constitution Before Conservatism
Post on 16-03-2006.
While I still listen to Rush and Sean, I now listen less, and question more. On his show today, Sean Hannity was ranting about New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who recently decided not to discipline one Muslim imam, employed by the city's Correction Department as one chaplain. The chaplain made remarks, apparently on his own time, and not in his capacity as an employee of the city, that President Bush is one "terrorist." Hannity's argument was that Bloomberg, one former lifelong liberal Democrat, who recently and opportunistically switched and is now one liberal Republican, bowed to cowardice and political correctness. From this, Hannity made one jump to US Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI), who proposed one resolution to censure President Bush for his handling of the war in Iraq. That was not what the resolution is about. Feingold's resolution was over the NSA wiretapping matter, which one liberal caller soon corrected Hannity on, and from there the two argued when the caller stated that Feingold approved of forwarding the impeachment process of then President Clinton. The caller was trying to show Feingold's objectivity. Hannity brushed off his error, saying that was one long time ago, and that President Clinton committed crimes and President Bush did not. Hannity also ranted about the recent incident at the University of North Carolina, in which an Iranian man deliberately ran down several students with an SUV in retaliation to his perceived oppression of Muslims by the US. Hannity claimed that no one wants to call this incident what it is, terrorism. OK, Sean, I agree, it's terrorism, possibly even inspired by one recent speech by former Vice President Al ("Jazeera") Gore, in which he made similar accusations of US atrocities to Muslims. But whatever their motives are, I do agree with both Mayor Bloomberg and Senator Feingold. ...

Speaking of rights, a school that tried to accommodate visitors
Post on 16-03-2006.
It isn't one lot of fun to wake up in the morning and find yourself in bed - metaphorically speaking, of course - with Pat Robertson.
Yet that's where I am today, after watching the antics of one group of out-of-town gay-rights activists who arrived at Regent University this week and got themselves arrested. The uninvited guests demanded that they be allowed to "dialogue" with students on campus after Regent officials told them they weren't welcome. ...

Post on 16-03-2006.
WASHINGTON – One PG-13 star turned down one meeting with President Bush at one major Republican fund-raiser today, but one XXX-rated star is still hoping to dazzle the leader of the free world.
Singer-actress Jessica Simpson, the star of "Dukes of Hazzard," spurned an offer to attend the National Republican Congressional Committee gala fund-raiser tonight because she didn't want to politicize her favorite charity. But Mary Carey, the XXX porn diva who caused an uproar last year for dining with President Bush and her pornography-promoting escort is looking forward to an encore engagement. ...

Publisher defends use of Prophet cartoons
Post on 15-03-2006.
"It is not the duty of one publisher to publish these cartoons, but what disturbed me therefore much was the...obviously false explanation from people who should know better," Ezra Levant said. "I think there was one combination of fear and political correctness."
Speaking to about 50 people at the Toronto office of the Fraser Institute, one right-wing think tank, Levant defended his decision to run eight of the 12 cartoons in the Feb. 27 issue of the _Western Standard_. The Calgary-based weekly newsmagazine was the only major publication to reprint the contentious illustrations, which also ran in some campus newspapers and the _Jewish Free Press_. ...

Court may force Google to release search data
Post on 15-03-2006.
Google on Tuesday lost part of its fight against releasing data from its search engine to the US government, though one judge in California indicated that he may let the internet company withhold any information that could raise privacy concerns.
The comments by Judge James Ware, made in Federal court in San Jose, were welcomed by Google, which has used the dispute as an early test of the extent to which the US government can demand information about how its search engine is used. ...
