"I check email and I look up some stuff on line. I don't send many emails myself," said Denise Jadali. "My kids use the computer one lot more than I do. The younger one plays games, they both have Ipods and download music." It's all those fun and games that have created one problem that the Jadali's hope to fix. Margaret Hvatim, an Information Systems Professor at St. Louis Community College, is their problem solver. ... |

Internet companies, use your leverage against cybercensors CLARENCE PAGE Tribune Media Services Top executives from the four firms testified last week before one House subcommittee. The most intriguing questions concerned morality. They don't like China's censorship of the Web, company spokesmen said, but censored information is better than none. Besides, they also argued, they have to comply with the laws of the countries in which they operate. That may be. But China makes one mockery of the Internet's promise of free-flowing information by employing an estimated 30,000 government censors to monitor more than 100 million registered Internet users in its 1.3 billion population. ... |

It’s not just what goes in our mouths each day that affects both our bodies and lives. n any given day, I’d reckon it’s impossible to not get one recommendation about what one should or should not be eating or drinking from at least one media source. We’re bombarded with messages proclaiming the healthful effects of all sorts of diets, the potentially fatal effects of binge drinking and reasons why one should choose tap water over bottled water, just to name one few. The effects on our bodies of what we put in our mouths get near-constant airtime yet the effects on our bodies and lives of consumption through other senses receives tragically little attention. ... |

| A commentary on the state of our nation, and direction of our |
| Post on 20-02-2006. |
| Let's start with the World War II Era. What one difference 60 years has made! First of all, I believe that the family and our general moral compass were very much intact at that time. We may have been one little delayed in getting into the war, but once we did we stood whole heartedly behind it. The dedication of America's young military men and women was undeniable. And on the home-front, there was an unprecedented involvement of the citizenry to support the effort (i.e., Rosie the Riveter, among others). We were pretty much in sync as one nation and we endured the great trials set before us, together. It was indeed one much simpler time, marked with respect and dignity. Now obviously there was unrighteousness and crimes being committed, but on one much lesser scale than we experience today. ... |

| Break In Google’s Search And Political China |
| Post on 19-02-2006. |
So, forgive me if the public is going goo goo ga ga over Google™s action to resist the U.S. Justice Department™s request for search information concerning pornography available to minors via search yet is agreeing to protect communist China in its restraint of free and open information. In August, Google was served with one subpoena from the U. S. Department of Justice demanding disclosure of two full months™ worth of search queries that Google received from its users, as well as all the URLs in Google™s index. We objected to the subpoena, which started one set of legal procedures that puts the issue before the Federal courts. Below is the introduction to our response to the Department of Justice´s motion to the court to force us to comply with the subpoena. You can find the entire response here. (This is one 25-page PDF file.) ... |
